Document the Details.
Once everyone is safe, take a few minutes to capture what happened.
The more clearly you document the scene, the smoother your claim process will be.
1. Take Clear, Complete Pictures
Photos are one of the most important parts of the claims process. Capture both the big picture and the small details.
Capture the Big Picture
All vehicles involved (multiple angles)
Entire scene from a distance
Intersection or roadway layout
Traffic signals and road signs
Skid marks or debris
Weather conditions (if relevant)
Capture the Details
Close-ups of damage
License plates
VIN (if visible and safe)
Broken glass or detached parts
Airbags deployed
Take more photos than you think you need. You can always delete extras later.
2. Write Down What You Remember
Details fade quickly after stressful situations. Take 2-3 minutes to record what you remember.
Suggested Notes:
Date and time
Exact locations (street & nearest cross street)
Direction each vehicle was traveling
Traffic Conditions
Weather conditions
*What happened - short, factual description
* While taking notes
Stick to the facts. Avoid opinions or assumptions.
3. Capture a Short Video (Optional but Powerful)
Consider Taking a 15–30 Second Video
What to Include in Video
Slow walk around all vehicles
Brief view of surroundings
Audio explanation (optional): “This is the front driver-side damage…”
Keep it steady and slow.
